Just in time for the beginning of school, we have received Rosemary Wells' new little book entitled My Shining Star: Raising a Child Who is Ready to Learn (Parenting 649.7 W455). This book focuses in a very simple way on what parents can do to help their child get off to a good start in school. The last page shows one of Wells' bunnies pointing to the blackboard where it says, "Give me a child who is ready to learn...I'll give you a shining star in return!" This is one of many books found in the Parenting Section of the Children's Room at the North Shore Library.
Other books in the Parenting Section include the following: The Educated Child: A Parent's Guide from Preschool through Eighth Grade by William J. Bennett, Chester E. Finn, Jr. and John T. E. Cribb, Jr. (Parenting 371.192 B472)
Raising Lifelong Learners: A Parent's Guide by Lucy Calkins with Lydia Bellino (Parenting 371.192 C155)
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families by Stephen R. Covey (Parenting 646.78 C873)
Starting Out Right: A Guide to Promoting Children's Reading Success by the National Research Council (Parenting 372.4 S796) |
